Blog Update: April 2013

I can’t believe I’ve survived four months of blogging.  So let’s take a look back at the month of April and see how things fared for the blog.  As usual, I’ll try to make this blog update post short, so that I can focus my time on writing actual content.

April in Brief

It’s been a steady month. No major changes, just some slow steady growth.  As many of your know, I’m working on crushing the Yakezie challenge and am pleased to announce that this month my Alexa ranking dropped below 200K.  Which is great.  I’m not going to stop there!  Let’s see how low this score can go! (lower is better)

Summer Blog Schedule

With summer almost here, I’d like to pretend that I actually have a life outside of work and blogging.  Just play along with me, it’ll make me feel better.

I plan to keep the posting frequency the same, but expect my commenting (on my blog and other blogs) to be reduced.  I need to cut back somewhere if I’m going to have enough time to actually enjoy the good weather while it’s around.

Become an MFIJ Follower

There are plenty of ways for you to follow the blog if you like what you see here: RSS, eMail, Twitter, and Facebook.  Pick one and go for it.  Now that Google reader is headed to that great compiler in the sky, you might want to subscribe with a couple of different options.

Also, if you are enjoying the blog let your friends know.  More visitors and commenters will help this blog thrive and grow.

Like the blog?  Tell your friends

If you like any of the stuff you’re reading on this blog, go tell your friends, tell your neighbors, post on social media.  Add the URL to your Christmas cards.  Just spread the word.   I thank you in advance.

Stats

For April, it appears that I’m averaging around 140 visits a day.  Maybe a bit less.

April Page Views: Almost 9,502.  It’s over 9,000! ….. What? 9,000?

Alexa Ranking: This blog has gone from 210,684 to 143,650.  Lower is better, by the way.  So I’m making progress!

MozRank: 3.85/10 (higher is better) – moved down.  WTF?

PageRank: 0/10 (higher is better) – no change.

I remain clueless if these stats are good or bad for four months of blogging.  I seem to be killing the Alexa Ranking.  MozRank and PageRank are basically doing nothing.  But I’m managing to pull in a lot more visits and pageviews, so I’m pretty happy that more people are discovering the blog and sticking around.

Expenses and Income

Expenses:

  • $-28.00,  The cost of the domain name registration.
  • $-133.65, The cost of hosting.
  • Total: $-161.65

Income:

  • March: $12.50
  • April: $25.24 (estimated – actual will be lower)
  • Total: $12.50 + April

Google Adsense is a strange beast.  It gives you bullshit estimated earnings and then lowers them down to final earnings.

I’ve also added an Amazon banner on the side which has yet to produce any income.  But if you’re going to go buy anything though Amazon, click the link on my site first.

I’m thinking about adding a few more ad banners into the posts to see if that helps to improve my income.

Readers:  If you like what you’ve seen so far, please follow the blog via RSS, email, or Twitter.  If you have something you’d like me to write about, I take suggestions.

happy 4 months-versary! those stats are awesome for 4 short months. imho your posts are quite researched and must take a lot of time to write down. I have read about many bloggers who were able to maintain their stats while reducing posting frequency, and I would reduce posting instead of networking, which is helping bring people over to your site. Congrats on the Alexa, Pagerank should update in 10 days or so.

  3. You are off to a great start and I’m sure your monthly report will keep improving if you stick with it. Is that hosting fee monthly or annually?

  5. Awesome work. I’ve also been around for about 4 months, but have no where near the amount of visits you have so I would say you are doing pretty well. Keep up the good work!

Great job with the stats, especially for only blogging for four months. Commenting on other sites is worthwhile, but you’re right it does take time and having a life and blog can be quite the balancing act.
PR should change any day now. Google updates them once every 3 months, so we’re due for one since the last one was February.
    Have a great month.

  7. Those are definitely great stats for 4 months. Way to go. But you’re absolutely right to enjoy the summer and the sunshine. Life is more than the internet! =)

  8. That’s some great progress for only 4 months. I think it took me close to a year to break 200k in alexa! Keeping a regular posting schedule over the summer is hard. I’ve already been slacking in these first few weeks of good weather we’ve had here.

Thanks! As you can see, I’m doing okay with the posting, but not so much with the commenting.
