My Financial Independence Journey is Joining the Yakezie Challenge

c-220-yakezie-01The Yakezie Network is a network of personal finance and lifestyle bloggers.  The stated goal of the Yakezie Network is to help readers optimize their financial life and lead better happier lives.  And the Yakezie motto is “Selflessly helping others.”  Those values are pretty solidly in line with my own blogging goals.  So after some internal debate, I decided to try the challenge.  Completing the Yakezie challenge is required if you are going to be a full member of the Yakezie network.

So what is the Yakezie Challenge?

The challenge is simply to grow my blog until its Alexa score drops below 200,000.  Lower is better in the world of Alexa rankings.  If I can achieve this feat within six months of today, I’ve complete the challenge.  In order to do beat this challenge, I need to be committed to posting regularly, and networking and interacting with other bloggers and with all of the great people who comment on my blog.

How can you help?

1) By reading, commenting, and interacting regularly with myself and others on this blog.

2) By spreading the word about my blog.  If you read an article that you love, link it in your blog or share it on Facebook, Twitter, or your favorite social media site.

Readers: What do you think of my decision to attempt the Yakezie challenge?

Congratulations! You’ll get to interact with quite a few different PF bloggers, representing a wide variety of views. I started the challenge about 6 weeks ago, and its certainly helping me in the ways I had hoped it would.

    1. Integrator,

I’ve found my blogging groove, so I thought I would try the Yakezie challenge and see if I can really work to make this blog into great resource for all of my readers.

Welcome to the challenge! If there is anything I could do, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

  3. It is a great idea, many of the people in the Yakezie network are very helpful and will help you to grow your blog.
Having said that though, I find that almost everyone in the PF community is really willing to help if you reach out to them.

    1. Glen,

I’ve only been in the challenge one day and several Yakezie members have already reached out to me. It’s easier to get help with this blog from people I’ve never met than it was to get help at my previous job from people I worked in the same office with. Strange, the way the world works.

Thanks for stopping by. And thanks for the encouragement.

  5. Good luck with the Challenge! Can’t wait to see how your blog progresses as a result!

Thanks for translating Yakezie into plain English within a few sentences. I was a bit confused. Not sure I would join at this point. Although my traffic increased significantly to my blog, I still am not fully confident to accept the challenge. Maybe with your support guys I will be able to get there too.

    1. If you feel that you can blog consistently for six months or so, you should give it a try. My understanding is that if you can do that, you’ll probably complete the challenge.
